Today, I found another YouTube gem !
The Importance of Luke Skywalker by “So Uncivilized”.
It appears to be a channel devoted to telling the story of Star Wars, in all its uniqueness.
I was so impressed. The video explains how the Star Wars story is quite different from many of the other hero movies.
The gist: Most other hero movies follow the line of a hero, who is destined for greatness, starts of not really knowing it; but through a long process (which is the move) grows into it and fulfils his destiny.
That is however, not the case with Luke Skywalker. He finds a destiny, and pursues it. He finds initial success, but soon he himself becomes the problem; and in fact his original understanding of his destiny is proved to be flawed. Now, Luke has to make a choice: to pursue what he thought he always wanted; or to pursue what he simply ought to do. He chooses the latter …
